Scottish SMEs Encouraged to Take Action to Avoid Cyber Attacks

Police Scotland CyberAlarm LogoMany SMEs consider their business to be too small to become the target of cyber criminals, leaving them exposed to the threat of data theft.

According to a new report published by Association of Business Insurers (ABI), SMEs generally consider themselves too small to be targeted by cyber criminals and, as a result, are not taking the relevant steps to mitigate the risk of a cyber attack.

ABI suggests there is a severe cyber protection gap in the SME sector, making small businesses an easier and more attractive target for cyber criminals.

Scottish SMEs are being urged to take action to avoid threats from cyber criminals.

The Supplier Development Programme has partnered with Police Scotland to provide a free webinar, on Thursday 13 March at 10:30am, showing Scottish SMEs how to use the free Police CyberAlarm Digital Tool.

The Police CyberAlarm is an award-winning free tool, supported by Police Scotland, through collaborative working with law enforcement partners across the UK, to help your business or organisation monitor and report the suspicious cyber activity it faces.

Since the Police CyberAlarm launched, it has identified over a billion suspicious events resulting in reports and advice being given to members, enabling them to take action to prevent a successful attack.

The Police CyberAlarm will detect and provide regular reports of suspicious cyber activity and vulnerabilities enabling your business or organisation to identify and mitigate its cyber risks through: regular activity reporting, identifying your business’ vulnerabilities, and business information and intelligence.
